Snow and Ice Warnings for Northeastern England: Freezing Rain Expected this Weekend

Snow and ice are set to impact the UK this weekend, with the Met Office issuing rare warnings for freezing rain. Snow and ice warnings have been put in place for parts of northeastern England, including areas from Newcastle to Bradford. These warnings are active from 6am to 2pm on Saturday.

Following a prolonged period of cold temperatures, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued a cold weather alert for North East England, Yorkshire, and the Humber. Cold conditions are expected to persist over the weekend, with additional heavy rain predicted in southern Wales and southwestern England.

The icy weather conditions may have a slight impact on health and social care services and will increase risks for vulnerable individuals, according to the UKHSA.

Met Office chief meteorologist Matthew Lehnert has advised that 2 to 5cm of snow could accumulate over the Cheviots and North Yorks Moors, with additional localised snow expected at lower elevations.
