Actor and filmmaker Noel Clarke has been charged with six sexual offences following a Metropolitan Police investigation into allegations involving five women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 50-year-old, who is known for his roles in Doctor Who and the Kidulthood film series, faces two counts of sexual assault, three counts of voyeurism and one count of exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Metropolitan Police announced the charges on Wednesday, 9 September, following an investigation which began in September 2025. According to the force, detectives submitted a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, which subsequently authorised the charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2007 and 2016. The police have stressed that the allegations remain allegations and that Clarke is entitled to a fair trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Reuters, the charges follow allegations of sexual misconduct made by five women. Clarke is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 21 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Metropolitan Police said the investigation remains ongoing and that the women connected to the charges continue to receive support from specially trained officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Detective Superintendent Mike Cagney, whose team is leading the investigation, encouraged anyone who believes they may have been a victim of sexual assault to contact police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Crown Prosecution Service said there was sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that prosecuting Clarke was in the public interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to The Guardian, the charges represent a significant development in a case that first attracted widespread attention after the newspaper published allegations of sexual misconduct against Clarke in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clarke denied the allegations reported at that time. The Guardian also reported that Clarke later lost a libel case against the newspaper in August 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The latest criminal investigation is separate from the publication of those earlier allegations, with the Metropolitan Police beginning its own investigation in September last year before passing an evidence file to prosecutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to The Times, Clarke was arrested in September 2025 as part of the police investigation. Detectives subsequently prepared a file of evidence for the Crown Prosecution Service, which assessed the case before authorising the charges announced this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The charges cover three different categories of alleged offending. Clarke faces two counts of sexual assault, three counts of voyeurism and one count of exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has not yet entered a plea in relation to the charges and will next appear in court in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clarke became widely known in British television and film during the 2000s. He played Mickey Smith in Doctor Who and later established himself as a writer, actor and director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He wrote and starred in Kidulthood, released in 2006, before directing its follow-up, Adulthood, in 2008. He later directed Brotherhood, completing what became known as the Hood trilogy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His other acting credits include appearances in films and television programmes including Star Trek Into Darkness and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new charges have brought renewed attention to allegations that have followed Clarke since 2021, although the criminal proceedings now under way concern specific allegations involving five women and alleged offences said to have taken place over a period of nine years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Crown Prosecution Service has urged the public and media to take care not to prejudice the proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to The Guardian, prosecutors have emphasised that Clarke has the right to a fair trial and that public commentary must not interfere with the legal process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Metropolitan Police has also said that specially trained officers are continuing to support the women connected to the charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police have appealed to anyone with relevant information to come forward, saying that information provided by potential victims will be dealt with sensitively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case is now expected to move to the courts, with Clarke scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 21 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Until the case is heard, the allegations against Clarke remain unproven. The charges themselves do not constitute a finding of guilt, and any verdict will ultimately be determined through the criminal justice process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
